I know most of you are probably thinking this is a no-brainer. That the next thing on the Cubs’ radar is the playoffs. That the 18 remaining days, during which the Cubs play 17 times, can kind of get glossed over. I’m here to tell you that is the formula for some terrible playoff mojo.
After missing a couple games with an abdominal contusion, Jason Heyward is back in the lineup for the Chicago Cubs tonight against the St. Louis Cardinals. Heyward will bat 2nd and play right field. Hopefully, our $184 million man can deliver some offensive production as the Cubs look to avoid dropping their 4th consecutive game.
Well shit. That sucked. Nursing a 2 run lead in the 7th, John Lackey (who pitched beautifully tonight) gave up a 2 run homer to Matt Adams. That tied it, and gave way for Adam Warren to come in for what could have been some extended relief, had this one gone to extras. But instead,
The Cubs have lost 5 of their last 9. That includes 2 losses in a 3 game set against division rival Milwaukee, followed by this weekend’s series against San Francisco, where the Cubs dropped another 2 out of 3. Now Chicago travels to St. Louis for 3 more. The Cardinals are 3rd in the division,
