Another outstanding performance from Jon Lester saw the Cubs get back on the horse after a disappointing loss Sunday to Arizona. They had won 4 straight heading into that contest, and 10 of their last 11.
Luckily, the Cubs came out swinging on Monday. Anthony Rizzo produced 2 RBI singles in a 3 hit performance, Jason Heyward bopped his 100th career homer, and Kris Bryant stroked a couple doubles.
Meanwhile, Lester went 8 strong, striking out 9 as he shutout Philly. Can’t say enough about how good this dude has been in 2016.
But anyway, the coolest thing about this dub is that it makes the Cubs the fastest team to 40 wins since the 2001 Mariners, who set an American League record for wins with 116 that season.
