Rizzo, Fowler, Arrieta Make List of ESPN April All-Stars

It’s no secret that the these three have been killing the game this season. Anthony Rizzo has driven in a league-leading 25 RBI, and has smashed 8 homers, but more importantly he’s hitting .354 with a .519 OBP and .757 slugging. Those numbers are BIG TIME.

Dexter Fowler has played as well as any player in baseball so far this season. Fowler is 6th in the majors in batting average, he’s 1st in OBP, and he’s 2nd in OPS. Defensively, the slight alteration Fowler has made to his positioning — playing a little deeper — in center has proven effective as his defense has been phenomenal. All in all, Dexter Fowler has been the quintessential leadoff guy. He gets on base at a better clip than anyone in baseball, and he’s got the pop to launch some homers and doubles. Love what we’ve seen from Fowler.

Finally, we come to Jake. Dave Schoenfield apparently feels that Clayton Kershaw deserves the ace spot in this all-star rotation, but we don’t care much about what Dave Schoenfield has to say, do we? Jake is our ace. He’s got the no-no, he’s second in ERA, and the Cubs haven’t lost with him on the hill. Outside of Chris Sale for the south-siders, no one has pitched better than Jake.

The bottom line here is we’ve got 3 Cubs who are having standout starts to the season. We could probably add a couple more guys like Jason Hammel and Kris Bryant to this list, but I think we can also be satisfied with 3.
