May 13: Deja-Vu Alert: Cubs Slap Pirates Around Again; Win 9-4

What an onslaught it has been thus far for the Cubbies against Pittsburgh. After today’s 9-2 victory, the Cubs have now outscored the Pirates by 20 runs in only 4 games.

Today was all about the long ball. Addison Russell hit a three-run shot in the 4th, then Kris Bryant added a two-run shot in the 5th, before David Ross would tack on 3 more with a round-trip of his own in the same inning. The Cubs final run of the came in the bottom of the 8th on a Dexter Fowler double to score Ross.

Jason Hammel recorded another solid outing going 6 and 2/3 with 8 Ks and only one earned run (another would cross on a David Ross throwing error). Hammel is now 5-0 with a 1.77 ERA, good for third best in the NL.

Aaaaaand as I’m writing this Andrew McCutchen just went deep to make it 9-4 with 2 outs in the 9th off of Cahill. Luckily I already changed the title, so we’re good. Anyway, that homer kind of made the jam Clayton Richard worked out of in the 8th a little more important, so good on ya Clayton.
