April 1: Cubs Fall 8-1 to Mets

Rough day for the Cubs at the plate. The Mets started Steven Matz, the young lefty who we faced back in October, and he was on his game.

After putting up with 5 innings of no hit ball from Matz, the Cubs had their shot in the 6th as they loaded the bases, and Andreoli was walked to force in a run, but were unable to make much of the opportunity before watching the game slip away in the late innings.

Jason Hammel, who started for the Cubs, pitched well, allowing only 1 earned run, with another coming on an error by Rizzo. Hammel struck out 6, but gave up 5 hits over 4 innings of work.

And just so we don’t feel so bad,  remember going into this one the Mets hadn’t won a game since St. Patty’s day.
