Great stuff from the Cubbies yesterday. Over 5 innings, Lester struck out 10, allowing only one hit. Offensively, the boys looked great also. Bryant, La Stella, and Soler all had multi-hit games, David Ross went 3 for 3 with 3 doubles and 4 RBI, and Schwarber went deep for the second time this spring. But it really was Jon Lester that stole the show. This guy has 4 hits in 98 career at-bats, and did this in the fourth:
That, my friends, was our boy’s first ever homer in a big league game. In fact, Lester said it was his first homer since high school! Pretty cool stuff. And, it gets even cooler. Lester’s homer reportedly traveled farther than Schwarber’s (which came right after).
But all in all this was a great display from the team. No Heyward, Fowler, or Montero in the lineup? No problem. This team is deep, and they know how to hit.
